I’m certainly not alone in this, but given everything that has gone down over the last few days both at Twitter and on Twitter I will no longer be using the site.
Elon Musk’s recent tweet equating advertisers and users leaving the site to an attack on the First Amendment went too far. The First Amendment and “free speech” have been bandied about heavily and I think there’s a general misunderstanding of what those concepts mean in reality. The framers of the Constitution – in my opinion – did not intend to create a system where words didn’t have consequences.
It also seems clear that while Elon might be a successful leader of car companies, boring companies, and spaceship companies, he is not cut out to be the leader of a people company. For all his talk of reformulating Twitter so that the people aren’t the product…he’s very much treating people like objects.
Anyway, I’m off to find greener pastures in other corners of the web. I’ve been on Mastodon since 2017, and specifically on mastodon.online since 2020. You can find me @d@mastodon.online. I’m also revisiting RSS readers and blogging – hence this post – as a means of aggregating/consuming interesting content as well as creating my own content.
Future post ideas swirling around in my brain will be related to:
- Strategic planning
- Organizational leadership
- Coaching
- dbt
- Data modeling
- Data engineering
- Analytics
- Change management
- Google Workspace / GSuite add-ons
- Running
- Raspberry Pi hobbies
So keep an eye out, subscribe, and let me know what you think about anything I’ve shared here…or anything you’d like me to cover.
